Junior High - Build Your Own Business

STEP 1:

 Research Your Business (MICROSOFT POWERPOINT)

Research Due: Presentations- Tuesday, 3/20/12 and Thursday, 3/22/12

Do you know what businesses do? How a company is viewed in the world? Finding out about how companies work - both companies you'd like to run, and companies you'd like to compete against - sets a strong foundation for creating your own successful business.

  1. Find 3 successful businesses to research and highlight. Identify the following:
    • Official Business/Company Name
    • Brand Identity/Logo
    • Purpose of the business
    • History: Starting Year
    • Name of Company Founder
    • How the Company gives back to the community
  2. Create a POWERPOINT presentation with slides for each of the your name, your potential business, the 3 companies, and resources/bibliography.

STEP 2:

Create Your Business Identity (MICROSOFT PUBLISHER; Jasc Paint Shop Pro, Inkscape, Google Drawing, Aviary, other art programs)

Logos Due: Presentations- 04/31/11

Do you know who you are? Can you express your client's identity in print? Identity Design or Corporate Identity is the face you put forward, usually in print, in the form of logos, business cards, letterhead, and other materials. Give you or your client an identity makeover with tips and tutorials for logos, letterhead, business cards and other corporate identity elements.

  1. Review tips for thought process in logo and identity design: The Basics of Logo Design | About Identity Systems | Create a clip art logo | Parts of a Business Card
  2. Design your own logo (using the links below). Logos can be comprised of graphic image, styled type, or both. Come up with at least three (3) designs for review; your class will decide on your final logo!
  3. Design business cards and letterhead. Display the following:
    1. Logo
    2. Business Name
    3. Contact Name
    4. Contact Address
    5. Contact Phone/FAX
    6. Business website, email address
  4. Design a print brochure or a restaurant menu. Display the following:
    1. Logo
    2. Business Name
    3. Business Description: Introduction, Services List or Menu Selections, competitive information, photos, highlights, etc.
    4. Contact Name
    5. Contact Address
    6. Contact Phone/FAX
    7. Business website, email address, etc.
  5. EXTRA CREDIT: Design a WEBSITE or COMMERCIAL to showcase your new business!

Installing fonts if you are using Microsoft Windows® XP:

  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, double-click Fonts.
  3. On the File menu, click Install New Font.
  4. Navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded or unzipped font, and, in the List of Fonts box, click the font you want to add
  5. Click OK.

Run Your Business (MICROSOFT EXCEL)
